Storage Furniture with Attitude : Spine
After I’ve presented the Pulse Bookshelf ,Måns Salomonsen the designer of this bookshelf contacted us to show us another interesting project named Spine, and here are his words. Spine is the result of a project to make storage furniture whit at least two drawers. I wanted to have the challenge to combine metal and wood in to a modern and elegant design. A part of the challenge was to work whit balance and make the furniture stand on just one leg and make the drawers almost look like they float in the air. It should make people stop and think about how it works. The pedestal follows the curve of the metal stand in the middle, so do also the drawers inside. And if you have two or more of this spine furniture the design should make it possible to fit them together (don’t really work whit this prototype).
The handle on the drawers are under the front so you can’t se them. All the wood work is made in a traditional way and the metal is also al made by hand. The finish on the metal is made by hand so the brush scratches follow the curve of the stand. This furniture is close to art and a much of the work was to get the curve feel right, it should have a smooth flow the whole way from the bottom to the top. The drawers and pedestal are made of am. white oak, and the bottom off the drawers and the Swedish oak. The finish is made whit 3 layers of Danish oil. The metal stand is made of 2mm sheet metal put on a thicker metal skeleton in the middle. After the finish by hand whit sand paper there is one layer of dull varnish.

The Peaceful Gun Rack Organiser
Stuart Fingerhut is a Los Angeles based designer who came up with this non-violent gun. It’s actually a wall mounted gun rack organiser specifically created to hold your keys, mail and so on in your foyer. What could be more peaceful than a gun that doesn’t fire, has a flock of birds and a little girl swinging on the barrel? He designed it to be a functional art piece.
The gun rack organizer is laser cut from 1/4″ acrylic and can be arranged such that there is more shelf space or to sit closer or further from the wall. You can purchase it either black or white for $100 from the designer’s Etsy Store. - Via

I love furniture that is both simple yet functional, modern furnitureponibili storage units fit that definition handily. Created in 1969 by the late Italian designer and architect Ms. Anna Castelli Ferrieri, modern furnitureponibili” are little more than plastic cylindrical and square containers - but what fantastic containers they are!
Created in the same year that saw the last episode of the original Star Trek, you can almost hear the futuristic “whoosh” modern furnitureponibili’s sliding doors. Kids in particular seem to be enamored by its cubbyhole characteristics; adults use them as anything from nightstands to bathroom storage. Extremely modern furnitureponibili can be stacked or moved around on small wheels.
Is it just me or do these guys look a bit like the Kodama from Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke? Alright, it’s probably just me - but with over 30 years in production and a presence in NY MOMA’s collection, these little guys have definitely developed a life of their own.
