What You Need to Know About Lighting Design for the Home

Light is defined as a narrow band of electromagnetic energy, which stimulates receptors in the eye that enable vision. Wavelengths between 380 nanometers and 760 nanometers are referred to as visible light and are some of the many marvels of the universe that affects everything from science to design. In the case of the design world, light affects and controls color, specifically called hue. Hue is the characteristic of color perception denoted by what we call red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Simply put, light does not just control what color looks like, but in fact creates color based on how different casts of light interact. This is why you can purchase a throw pillow in a store, thinking that it will look perfect with that new violet sofa in your game room, and get it home only to discover that it is not even violet, but a strange shade of burgundy. Furniture Classics live on in "Cassina Maestri I" Collection

If the names of great furniture designers like Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Charlotte Perriand are of interest, then the "Masteri I" collection by Cassina of Italy is a great place to look for authentic licensed reproductions. Also included are selected works by Gerrit T. Rietveld like the Utrecht sofa and arm chair, a 1935 release which has risen to furniture icon status. Cassina acquired the license for Rietveld's designs in 1971 and has experienced phenomenal success with connoisseurs who know and respect furniture from the original modern movement. Some other releases included in the Cassina I Maestri collection are Rietveld's Zig-Zag accent chair, the Red and Blue lounge chair, and the Schroeder 1 table, all produced with exact standards of the originals. The Utrecht series shown here looks as good today as it did 70 years ago, and is right at home in a classical modern interior.

Inspiring Seattle Washington Home Pictures

The Woodway home was a project by Bohlin Cwinski Jackson that took a 1950s suburban home and brought it up to date. The home is located in Seattle, Washington, a city that features beautiful scenery. The architects were able to take nature and incorporate it into the theme of the residence. The Woodway home looks like a beautiful wilderness home with its wood design and natural landscape. These pictures are simply inspiring about the possibilities of combining modern design and nature. Via. Continue reading "Inspiring Seattle Washington Home Pictures" »

duetto bedtags: bedroom, livingroom

THE CHOICE OF BEDDING in these photos wouldn’t have been our first, but if you can forgive the atrocious patterns you’ll see a fairly remarkable bed in terms of functionality. In its most efficient form the Duetto serves as a daybed or settee with a single bed hidden underneath. The single rolls out predictably to serve as a secondary guest bed; however a piston-driven mechanism allows the bed to be raised flush with the main frame, in effect creating a double bed. flou.it Popularity: 9% [?]

barocco seating collectiontags: livingroom

ELEGANTLY MODERN, we love Zanotta’s Barocco seating collection for its restrained employment of traditional aesthetics. Chief amongst these are the rounded and flared armrests and the diamond quilted upholstery, which act as a subtle contrast to the predominantly minimalist design. Quality is evident within and without: the easy-to-clean removable external covers and elastic strip springing are nice touches. $2,096-$6,826, d furniture Popularity: 3% [?]

Font Clock Presents the Time using 12 Different Fonts

After I’ve presented the Beautiful Colors Wall Clock a few days ago today I’ve discovered another simple wall clock with a modern design. The Font Clock is a 21st century take on the British 24 hour clock design icon. Twelve different fonts are printed within the mechanism of the clock providing a random, mixed display of graphic language within a single time piece. Font clock is offered in three different sizes, as you can see in the picture attached below. The clock is quite expensive, but for those of you who are interested you can get one from here.

Table Bench

Table Bench is a little table with two seats incorporated designed by Hans de Pelsmacker. This table is ideal for a small place. From the picture the table seems to small, and can be used for a chees match, a romantic date, or something that don’t requires to much space, and if you are tall or big, I don’t know what to say about how your legs will feel in that little space. - Via - Design Milk
