Hans J. Wegner's CH 445 Wingchair Endures the Test of Time

When it comes to Danish Modern furniture there is one name comes to mind as the father of the movement, and that's Hans J. Wegner. Hans started his studio in 1943 and enjoyed much success and accolades as one of the worlds most renowned designers specializing in chairs. In 1960 Wegner released his soon to be famous CH445 Wingchair in limited quantities. In 2006 Carl Hansen & Sons dusted off the blue prints and reintroduced the lounge chair to immediate success and awards at the IMM in Cologne, and the Copenhagen International Furniture Fair that same year. Today the wingchair is what Hans Wegner envisioned it to be and then some reaching true furniture icon status and a place in the homes and hearts of modern furniture lovers world wide. According to Carl Hansen & Sons "we have worked with Wegner's original drawings and some of the few pieces that remain from the sixties, when a smaller number of them were produced by hand. And we're proud to say that we have upheld the original construction and materials - including solid beech frames and hand-sewn piping - just the way that Wegner designed it." If you want furniture that will last in not only quality of construction, but style as well, the licensed modern classics are the way to go.

Stink Coffee Table, A Table That Cracked

The Stink table is designed by Dylan Gold for Link Studios and it is a brilliant conversation piece for those guests that appreciate contrast in modern design. Now I know that a lot of people would say, but is a cracked table, I can’t use it. That’s right that stuff will fall through the cracks if you are not careful, and you should buy it only if you want a piece of modern design that looks good, but it isn’t really functional. According to the designer, Dylan Gold, the table is very heavy, made of solid mdf layers coated in automotive lacquer and clear coat. Finally to solve the cracked part the designer suggests that you can also fit it with a piece of glass on top. - Via

Round Pool Tables

We have featured different kinds of pool tables before - design variations on the classic rectangular pool table.  But never before a round pool table!  The lack of angles means no nasty corners to bump into. One immediately obvious advantage is the space saving feature for those who love to have company over to shoot some pool but don’t have the room for the rectangular sort. The custom made pool table is the brainchild of JM Billiard Co. They make these in different diameters - 6,7,8 feet. You can choose from over 30 cloth colours and any type of material for your pool table. Wood, laminate, metal etc. They even suggest a fish tank at the bottom if you wish!  But most people would find the options for a poker table or dining table top a more useful choice! - Via

Mia - Contemporary Wall Unit, Bed, and Desk

The first comment on Mia is wow! Mia is a complete wall furniture system. There is a single bed frame on the right. In the middle is a series of storage drawers. The left has a desk for writing and computer work. The contemporary colors on this furniture system are well thought out. The orange brings in some bright colors for the desk. The white color of the bed frame and storage drawers helps center the entire piece. The espresso on top adds a little something while providing a finishing contrast to the white. I really like how this piece has tied together these three elements into a nice looking package. More information: here.
