INSPIRED BY DA VINCI, Leonardo is a mobile bar whose design is decidedly less revolutionary than its namesake, but eye catching furniture designheless. By far the most conspicuous are the concentric rings; a primary ring serves to keep tall wine bottles in place, while two secondary rings serve as a handle and frame. Dharma Lounge
The Dharma Lounge is designed by Palette Industry, and is an interesting approach for a chair. The use of laser cutters in furniture design is starting to make these typographic efforts relatively easy to produce. The Lounge chair is cut to display the following saying: Stand, Forget, Breathe, Acknowl Beverly Hills: Edge / Leather Sofa Sets & Observe. I’m pretty sure that this design will get some attention from the typography community.
Practical Huggy Armchair
At Freshome we really enjoy furniture that can twist, bend or turn, to get a new shape for different purposes. Take the Huggy armchair for example. Normally it has a mattress that is wrapped inside a small cylindrical wooden base, like the ice cream in a cone, to form a 77 x 60 x 60 cm comfortable armchair. However if you need to come up with a solution, if your friends decided to stay overnight, you can change it into an extra bed. Just unscrew the base and roll the mattress on the floor, you’ll have a 190 x 120 cm perfect bed.
The Huggy armchair can even be changed into a small table. Turn the base upside-down and voila, you have a 60 cm diameter, 40 cm height and 12 cm thick, useful night table. It shouldn’t be very expensive and could easily be done by yourself if you have some time to kill. - Via
The Perspective Chair
The Perspective Chair is designed by Pharrell Williams in collaboration with furniture designer Domeau & Pérès. The Perspective chair will be shown in Paris at the prestigious Emmanuel Perrotin Galerie from October 21st 2008 until January 10th 2009. The chair will be available in four colors and only 4 units of each will be sold. Now this is a piece of furniture in limited edition, and if they’ll sell only 4 pieces just try to imagine the price. Finally the inspiration behind the design of the Perspective Chair was the relationship between a man and a woman, and here is what Pharrell has to say about this : “I had often wondered what it’s like to truly be in love, not lust for once.. So I decided not to ask what it was like in someone else’s shoes or what it was like to sit in their seat.. I decided to sketch out my own experiment; the perspective chair.” - Via
1967 Modern House For Sale in Tewin
Do you remember the 1964 House For Sale in London that we scooped last week? Today we have another one. It’s much cheaper and I can say has a higher dose of both modernism and minimalist design. Designed and built in 1967 by architect Colin Huntley, this beautiful three- bedroom terrace house has been highlighted in the famous Buildings of England series.
The house has been under intensive remodeling by STUDIO Blueboat who had the mission to make the living-room/ dining-room larger and to move the kitchen into a specially designed zinc, steel and oak extension. Featuring a small courtyard garden at the front and a larger enclosed garden at the rear, the house makes it easy for those that want to live “close to nature”.
On the inside, everything looks perfect, lined up, with the right colors and large glasses to allow the sun rays inside. The best of them all, I think it’s the open-up living-room, with the large couch and the white walls. What do you like the most? Oh and I forgot. That house is for sale, for £325,000.

Monument Etagere Traditional Mahogany Shelving
The Monument Etagere from Baker Furniture is a furniture piece that comes right out of a Southern Living magazine. I see this piece in the interior of a traditional home featuring antiques, dark staine d furniture, and a sense of history. The shelving is constructed of mahogany wood featuring five fixed shelves that are affixed to the frame using antique brass rings. There is a small drawer at the bottom to offer additional storage. Giant Hand-Knitted Carpet by Sebastian Schoenheit
Have you ever had to gently refuse your mother’s or grandmother’s old-fashioned hand knitted work? However much you appreciated their skill, knitted accessories just won’t do for the Beverly Hills: Trend / Leather Sofa Setsy, modern look you’re trying to achieve for your home? Perhaps you might change your mind after seeing the “300 Knitted Carpet” created by German designer, Sebastian Schoenheit.
His carpet was indeed hand-knitted but he used gigantic knitting needles nearly as tall as he is. Perhaps he learnt how to knit from his grandmother. If so, she did a great job for his stitches are even and well-formed. It must have taken not just strength to hold the needles to knit but also a long time to get through the work. I’m not sure what the “300″ meant but I suspect it might be the actual number of stitches he knitted before falling down in utter exhaustion at the end!
1960s Mid Century Modern Sling Sofa by George Nelson
When it comes to modern designers, George Nelson ranks right up near the top in terms of contributions to furniture design. The Sling Sofa pictured here was manufactured in the 1960s by Herman Miller. The frame is constructed of chromed tubular steel. The seat contains black leather cushions over a leather and rubber sling seat. A piece like this is a modern classic that would fetch from $2,000-$4000 in the open market today based on its condition.
