Beverly House in Toronto Has a Modern Minimalist Interior

For the lat 3-4 years I have become the fan of a minimalist interior design, mostly because I am much more productive in a clean but modern environment and secondly because it’s like I can breathe properly. Take a look at the Beverly House from downtown Toronto, that is exactly what I described above. Restored by Stanford Downey, from a 100 year old row house it features a green wall, a solar atrium with passive heating and cooling vents, in-floor heating, a beautiful open-spce Scavolini kitchen, acoustical sound wall between neighbors (scream as much as you like) and various green products. The bathroom and the bedroom really blew my mind. Everything is so nicely aligned, and the colors … oh the colors. It’s a dream home. Simply beautiful. - via Momoy

hand-tufted rugs by angela adamstags: miscellanea

I’ve never found rugs to be particularly interesting, but after seeing Angela Adams’ work I’ve found myself looking for similar pieces everywhere. Her hand-tufted rugs aren’t for everybody - those looking for designs on the serious end of the spectrum (traditional and/or plain) will likely find Angela’s artwork to be a bit too playful. However, it’s precisely the whimsical nature of her designs that I like: spaces are consistently uneven, shapes are irregular and lines are never quite parallel. Above: the Lulu ($70-$1,550) and Kenga ($299-$1,550) rugs both employ large, oblong ellipsoids - a good choice if you’re looking for an uncomplicated pattern. It’s also nice to know that Angela Adams’ rugs are Rugmark-labeled; the label signifies that no illegal child labor is utilized in their manufacture. Hand-tufted in India using 100% New Zealand wool, her rugs are also famous for their three-dimensionality; differing pile heights are interesting aesthetically but also maximize tactile feedback. Translated into more casual terms: they’re great for rolling around on the floor (yes, I am man enough to admit to having done this on occasion). Above: the Mammy ($299-$1,550), Islands ($70-$1,550) and Munjoy ($2990-$1,550) rugs are fairly busy and therefore require more careful placement–but remain fun pieces nonetheless. Popularity: 4% [?]

Metaphys Indoor Grass Planters

Metaphys Indoor Grass Planters is designed by designer Chiaki Murata, with the purpose to bring a piece of nature in a stylish way inside our homes. The individual planters can be stacked, hung or laid on your coffee table. This combination of white with fresh green is awesome, and has a modern look. - Via - Inhabitat “The Metaphys products are designed with the common idea and they are consistent with the idea even though different companies produce the products: the idea is that all the creative process should start from “observation.” By observing things, you have the perspectives of the second and the third persons, and thereby you can avoid being subjective. It represents “a discipline that explores the basic principle of all existences.” What we think is necessary is really necessary for everyday life? One of our missions is to examine how important the existence of a product is in this world of the excessive production.”

Sink + Toilet for a Better World

Sinkpositive came with a sink idea that I think is very good, and everyone should have one. Now … why have one ? First you can earn some money. For example after you wash you hands that water is reused when you flush. If you care about the environment this sink saves water and reuse it, that’s a good thing. - Product Page

“Take A Seat” a Chair that Follows You

The “Take-A-Seat” is a chair concept that follows you wherever you go designed by Jelte van Geest. For instance if you’re in a library and you are a member of that library as you can see in this video. You hold your membership-card in front of the chair and from then on you have a seat that follows you around. This is a concept visualisation made by Jelte van Geest for his graduation project at the Design Academy Eindhoven. I think that this chair will remain a concept because people really don’t need to be that lazy, and I’m pretty sure that this chair would have huge problems following people in most houses. Now let’s see a video this interesting concept. - Via - Core77

Great Looking Mission Furniture from Stickley

If you like your furniture built solid and built to last with no frills or needless embellishment, then Mission Style furniture is what you're looking for. The Mission or Arts and Crafts Movement was a backlash against the extravagant, over-the-top designs of the Victorian era and also against the mass produced furniture emerging after the industrial revolution. In the late 1890s, craftsmen such as Gustav Stickley led the charge to incorporate clean, geometric lines and natural materials to produce structurally sound pieces that emphasized the originality of the craftsman and his handiwork. Telltale signs of Mission Style furniture include visible joints, such as the mortise and tenon that was popular at the time and continues to serve furniture makers today, as well as quarter-sawn wood which gave the grain a beautiful look. Nails and rivets were often left exposed to add a gleaming contrast to the wood or upholstery. While the philosophy seems to set-up decades of fabulously boring furniture, it was anything but. Rather, Mission furniture was beautifully designed, with manufacturers relying on exquisite craftsmanship and finishing techniques to add serene elegance to an item.
